Big Interlake Mechanical was founded on a shared dream and a deep-rooted love for community. Wayland McKay and Jessica Chartrand, both from St. Laurent, met in high school and quickly realized they shared more than just a connection — they both had a passion for their hometown. When they got married and started their own family, they knew they wanted to return "home" and contribute to the community they loved.
Our founder and lead mechanic, Wayland McKay, brings over 20 years of experience in the mechanical field to Big Interlake Mechanical. His expertise goes beyond technical skill; it’s grounded in a deep understanding of the needs of the local community.
Wayland’s journey began right here in St. Laurent, where he grew up and graduated from École Communautaire Aurèle-Lemoine in 1999 — even winning a contest to design the school's logo. After high school, Wayland pursued his passion for mechanics at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, earning his Red Seal in Agricultural Technology in 2004.
Since then, Wayland has honed his craft with top-tier dealerships such as Toromont, Mazergroup, Kubota, and Bobcat. He’s constantly learning and advancing his skills, taking every opportunity to grow through in-house training. With more than two decades of experience, Wayland is now preparing to earn his Red Seal in Powersports as well.
Jessica Chartrand, co-founder of Big Interlake Mechanical, has poured her heart into the business alongside Wayland. With a deep commitment to the community and a genuine care for every person who walks through our doors, Jessica ensures that each customer feels welcomed and valued. Her passion for the business and her dedication to service are integral to the heart of our company.
